Add a Foot Pedal to your Beatbox!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Nov 07, 2019 at 05:12:02 PM

We’re excited to share that we’ve successfully modded a foot pedal to the Beatbox and want to show you how to do it! If you’re a video person, check out our tutorial here.

Difficulty level: ⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Approx build time: 10 mins

Here is what you’ll need to add your foot pedal:

  1. Basic electrical knowledge
  2. Supplies
  3. Confidence :)

Before we jump in, what is happening electronically?

In a nutshell, functions of the arcade buttons on the Beatbox are powered by circuits. When you press down on a button, its circuit closes and allows electricity to flow and signal that the button has been activated.

A foot pedal works the same way, operating with a momentary switch and spring inside.

If you push the pedal, the circuit closes. Conversely, when you remove your foot, the circuit opens.

Let’s talk materials.

You’ll need:

  1. Tattoo Gun Pedal
We got ours off Amazon. It comes with a TS ¼” Connector which is used for various music applications, like connecting electric guitars to amps. The TS ¼”  is essentially a 2 pin connector, with the tip acting as the signal and the barrel acting as the ground.
  2. Female TS Jack Panel Mount
This is what the TS ¼” Connector attaches to.
  1. Electrical tape
We’re going to need this for securing the Female TS Jack.

Assembly Time.

Follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Drill a hole in the back of your Beatbox in-between the speakers.
  1. Insert the Female TS ¼” Panel Mount Jack where you drilled a hole and secure it with electrical tape.
  2. Choose a face button that you will substitute the foot pedal with. (Why? The Beatbox only has the exact number of input as face-plate, or buttons on the box, so you have to substitute a face button for the foot pedal.)
  3. Solder the chosen button’s GST connector wire to the Female TS Jack you’ve added to the back of the box.
  • Plug the TS connector into the jack and TA-DA!

Let us know if there is anything else you would like to see us mod for the Beatbox!

Now, go make some awesome music.

And It's a Wrap!

We can’t believe that our Kickstarter Campaign has officially ended! Thank you to everyone who supported us by contributing to our Kickstarter, telling your friends about us, or showing us love on social media. We could not have surpassed $150K without all of you!

We would love to be a part of your beat-making journey, so don’t hesitate to ask us questions or show us your awesome beats on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. This has been a dream, and we could not be happier!

Peace out, A-Town.

Hey guys, we’ve met our first Kickstarter stretch goal!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Sep 12, 2019 at 10:34:35 PM

Thank you to each and every one of our backers! We have more to hit, which we’ve listed out below. Stay in the loop by following us on Instagram and signing up for our newsletter on our home page.

$75,000

Cardboard Carrying Case

We’ve made sure the BeatBox is even more on-the-go friendly by designing a cardboard carrying case for it. The BeatBox fits perfectly inside and there is an opening at the top of the case for the built-in handle to fit through making it easier and safer to learn and play wherever you wish. Just like the Beatbox, you can deck out the case with paint or stickers or really whatever you think you can super glue on.

The Beatbox will come with a built-in handle and cardboard carrying case pictured above.

$100,000

Special Free Melodics Lessons

We’ve teamed up with Melodics, a subscription based music education software, to provide special lessons to help you master the BeatBox. The lessons will come free with a promo code we will provide you. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to become a master beat maker.

$150,000

Detailed Mixer Section

As of right now, our mixer section only includes gain adjust for each drum pad group. While it’s sufficient for basic production, for professional level fine-tuning you really want something more sophisticated, but developing this requires capital. After all, no other product in the market at this price point offers audio mixing at this level.

Once we hit $150,000, we’ll develop our mixer section further to reflect channel EQs, panning, and enable adding up to 2 macro effects per channel, so you can produce professional sounding beats straight off of the Beatbox!

$200,000

Reverse Tutorials

This is a pretty revolutionary idea we had over learning how to play your own beats while making marketing materials. We realized that instead of trying to remember how the beat plays out, it was more efficient if we just played along with the sequencer graph.

So here’s the idea: you map out a sequence, and the app will let you turn it into a Guitar Hero like lesson that helps you practice the sequence, so you get to learn your own pattern. After all, we want to do everything we can to enable you to play your beats out live. Your hard work should pay off in performance!
